Skin Treatments FAQs

Should I choose freeze therapy or salicylic acid for a wart?

Both freeze therapy and salicylic acid are effective for removing warts. The difference comes down to preference. Freeze therapy works quickly and can remove a wart in as little as one treatment. Salicylic acid works gradually over repeated applications. Salicylic acid wart remover products often include cushioning pads for protection during treatment.

How does the Freeze Away Skin Tag Remover work?

The Freeze Away Skin Tag Remover uses clinically proven cryotherapy, the same technology used by many doctors, to freeze the skin tag. Most skin tags fall off naturally within about two weeks of treatment.

What is Hydrogel Technology?

Hydrogel is a soft, cushioning material used in Dr. Scholl's Seal & Heal Bandages and cushions. It creates a moisture-rich environment that supports natural healing and protects the area from shoe pressure and rubbing.

Are wart removers safe for children?

Freeze Away Wart Remover is safe to use on kids ages 4 and up when used as directed. Always read the package directions and ask a doctor if you have questions.

How do I treat a blister on my foot?

Clean your blister thoroughly and then cover and cushion the blister to protect it. Blister Cushions Seal & Heal Bandages with Hydrogel Technology support natural healing while creating a barrier to guard against rubbing and pressure. The Blister Pain Relief Complete Kit includes the hydrogel bandages along with 4% lidocaine patches to numb painful blisters.

What is the difference between the pain relief patches and roll-ons?

Both the pain relief patches and roll-ons use lidocaine for targeted relief and menthol for a cooling effect. The patches are designed to stay in place for continuous relief over time. Roll-ons are applied directly to the skin and may be more versatile. Always follow the directions on the package.

Can Dr. Scholl's treat fungal nail?

Yes, Dr. Scholl’s offers a product to treat fungal nail infections. Fungal Nail Clear & Cure Swabs include a 1% tolnaftate swab that treats athlete's foot fungus around the nail. This product also includes a swab designed to improve the appearance of nails.

What treatments help with foot odor?

The Odor-X range includes odor-fighting and sweat-absorbing foot powders, powder sprays, a probiotic extract spray and a dry spray. These products effectively control odor, and some can also help minimize sweat.

Who should not use medicated corn or wart removers?

Do not use medicated corn, callus or wart removers if you have diabetes or poor circulation unless your doctor advises you to do so. Do not apply these products to irritated, infected or broken skin.

When should I see a doctor instead of treating at home?

See a doctor if your condition does not improve with treatment or if there are any signs of infection, such as severe swelling, redness, a hot sensation or discharge. Also see your doctor if you have any changes to your feet and you have diabetes.

Foot Skin Treatments That Work the Way You Need

When something is wrong with the skin on your feet, you want a treatment that works, is easy to use and fits into your schedule. Dr. Scholl's skin treatments address some of the most common concerns, including warts, corns, calluses, skin tags, blisters, athlete's foot, fungal nail infections, foot pain and foot odor.

Warts

Warts are skin growths caused by a virus. They’re most common on the hands, but you can get warts on other areas of the body. Plantar warts, which typically form on the bottoms of the feet, can be painful due to pressure from walking and standing. Dr. Scholl’s offers products to remove warts and protect the warts from painful pressure.

If you have plantar warts, there are different options for removal. The Fast-Acting Liquid Plantar Wart Remover includes a liquid treatment with 17% salicylic acid. The formula exfoliates layers of dead skin to eliminate the wart. The product also includes cushions to shield tender warts while the medication goes to work. The Clear Away® Fast-Acting Liquid Wart Remover also treats warts with a salicylic treatment liquid, but instead of cushions, there are cover-up discs designed to conceal unsightly warts and reduce the chances of spreading.
