You may learn from your doctor that you have shin splints.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For most shin splint sufferers, the good news is that you can achieve shin splint pain relief \u2013 and you might even be able to prevent shin splints with some simple steps on your own:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"listPara\">\r\n \t<li>Add <a href=\"\/en\/pc\/shoe-inserts\/\">orthotic inserts or insoles<\/a> designed to help support your arches and absorb the shock of high-impact exercise\r\n<ul class=\"listPara\">\r\n \t<li>Reduce your exercising until the condition improves, then ease back into your full routine.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Stretch your calves and Achilles tendons regularly.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Don\u2019t overload your shins with too much running or high-impact activity at too high an intensity.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Strengthen and stabilize your legs, ankles, hips and core with light weight training.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Remember RICE:<\/strong>\r\n<ul class=\"listPara\">\r\n \t<li><strong>Rest<\/strong> \u2013 give your legs a break and time to heal, either by reducing your activity or avoiding movement altogether for a time\r\n<strong>Ice<\/strong> \u2013 keep an ice pack on for 20 minutes at a time every 3 or 4 hours for up to 2 days until the pain is gone\r\n<strong>Compression<\/strong> \u2013 wrap your shins for extra support and to help them warm up while active\r\n<strong>Elevation<\/strong> \u2013 prop up your legs on a pillow while you\u2019re resting to further lighten the load<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"legal-text legal-text-first\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Not a medical diagnosis.
