There are many things to consider when shopping for shoes. Where will you be wearing them – around the house, during social occasions or at a construction site? What purpose do they serve – are they for daily comfort, athletics or protection? Finding the proper shoes that function within their proper environment is important but whatever shoes you end up with, comfort is always the key.

Shoe Shopping Tips

  • To ensure proper fit, always measure your feet while standing.
  • Feet tend to swell during the day so shop in the afternoon.
  • Buy shoes with flexible soles to accommodate movement.
  • Women should buy shoes in a variety of heel heights.
  • Choose an athletic shoe designed specifically for that particular sport.
  • The heel should fit snugly to prevent slippage.
  • All footwear should be flexible at the ball of the foot to prevent extra strain on your calves and heels.
  • For industrial settings, like construction sites, shoes or boots should always meet proper safety guidelines.
  • Try new shoes on both feet and walk around the store to test their fit.
  • Avoid buying shoes that require a “break-in” period – they should always feel comfortable right away.
